Dear Potential Stallholder,
Hello and I hope that this finds you well.
I and the villagers of Milton Abbas would like to invite you to book a stall at our 18th Century Street Fair to be held on Saturday 26th July 2025, between 11am and 5pm.
Our last street fair in 2023 was hugely successful with over 5,000 visitors coming along to enjoy the day.
The fair originally began after King Athelstan began a tradition in the 10th Century, when he granted the old town of Milton a market and a fair after visiting it. Since then, the town was famously moved by Joseph Damer in the 18th Century and became the Milton Abbas we know and love today. In 1973 the street fair was restarted as a nod back to those historical times and is a much loved bi-annual event.
Our famous thatched Cob houses in The Street give up their front lawns for stall holders and demonstrators and the road closes to all vehicles and becomes pedestrianised, allowing visitors to enjoy the day.
To enhance the atmosphere of the event, we would really appreciate it if you would join in on the fun by dressing in suitable costumes and trying to give your stalls some historical character; there is a “best in show” award so please do make an effort!
The standard space available is a pitch with 15 feet frontage and 12 feet depth (4.6m by 3.6m) on the “green” outside each cottage or infill spaces between cottages; owners use these as their driveways, so some plots will have gravel, grass, or varied terrain.
We expect to have many more people requiring stalls than we have space available, so please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Bookings should be reserved with the full payment via BACS if possible, as well as a completed application form.
To prevent duplication of stalls, please state the nature of all goods being sold and/or demonstrated.
We actively encourage and delight in traders selling locally produced food, drink, craft and other items and the Organising Committee retain the right to refuse stallholders whose goods are not felt to be appropriate for our historic fair: for example, no fairground novelties or prize winning stalls.
If you require a particular site, please state this on the booking form and, if available, it will be allocated to you.
Our Fees for 2025 for a standard pitch (15’X 12’) are:
Catering Stall Standard rate £250
Craft Stall Standard rate £50
Registered Charities Standard rate £50
Demonstrators plus wares for saleStandard rate £50
Demonstrating only No fee
Please indicate on the form if you require a non-standard site (such as multiples) and you will be contacted accordingly. If essential, electricity is available on request at the discretion of the cottage owner, but we will need to charge extra. No noisy generators are allowed, as this spoils the atmosphere and the music and dancing that will be going on during the day.
The organisers do not accept liability in the case of cancellation for reasons beyond their control and stallholders should insure themselves against this likelihood. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions attached to this email and on our website www.miltonabbasstreetfair.co.uk
Stallholders must provide their own tables and chairs and clear their site of litter after the event.
Please bring your own litter container. No vehicles can be left in the Street during the Fair and must be removed to the nominated car park by 9:00am latest where you can park free of charge. Please note therefore that this is an early start to get into the street and unload in order to set up. After this time the Street will be closed to traffic and vehicular access will not be possible until the event closes.
All Proceeds from the Street Fair go to County and local charities & village organisations.
Yours sincerely
Paula Driver
